Went to a wedding for my driver the other day. Only a couple of people from the platoon could make it, just enough of us to stake out a claim on our own table at the reception. I find it highly amusing that within ten minutes you could tell which table the military folks were at. Our table was the one stacking empty beer bottles up in a pyramid while the few other people who got drinks were still nursing their first. The fact that most of the guys brought their own probably factors into it somehow.

I think someone tried to throw a molotov at the neighbors today. Severe emphasis on the tried. The bottle bounced off the house and rolled over by a big shrub that's almost in my yard. It was a Heiniken bottle half full of something that wasn't as flammable as they probably thought it would be and a piece of newspaper as the wick. The paper caught but the liquid inside kept it to a slow smoke. Aside from the fact that it failed massively, the damn thing looks like what you'd expect a molotov to look like. If you've never seen one that works.
I saw it when I came home from work and spent a good minute staring at it, because, hey, burning bottle. Not something you see everyday in the neighborhood. Was able to kick it away from the shrub which was starting to smoke a bit and then doused the whole thing with water. Neighbor said she heard something hit the house just before I got home, and when she looked out window a car was speeding away. She explained to me that she thought it was some of her daughter's ex- and/or current friends egging or throwing things at their house again.
Apparently, stuff like this happens a lot. I've just never noticed it before. I'm starting to not like living among people. I mean, molotov burning bottles being thrown at houses! Fuck. What if the idiots that did it go back to the internet and learn to make a real one? Cause from what the neighbor said there's a definite pattern of escalation that I'm seeing here. If it's really been going on as long as she says it has then I won't be surprised if one day a real one gets thrown.
It's a fucking tragedy when I can honestly say that I've felt safer going out on night convoys in Iraq than I do sitting in my own house.
