[Naruto] Perfect Woman
I'm getting used to the hear now. Just a little bit. When I'm not busy with work I'm ususally playing Crisis Core which is killing me with all of the stuff that it's hinting at. I've got a few fics to post, the Pit is no longer accesible to me as it's been blocked, so they'll all go up here when I get the time to do anything online.

So, please forgive me the occasional spamming of your friend pages.

Notes: Written for a FFnet challenge; put Shika in one of the character search boxes and find out every combination that has no fic for it. I was pretty surprised to find out how well Shika and Shizune go together.

Shizune wasn't what most would call a pretty woman. She wasn't exactly ugly, she was just average. Which would probably account for why, despite her position and skill, she was overlooked by guys. Most of them either zeroed in on the Hokage's rack, or Sakura's exotic hair. The only mildly attractive Shizune was never given a second glance.

Such a pity.

Shizune was a proficient medic, specializing in the creation and curing of poisons. She wasn't an expert though, and she was only considered average in all other medical fields. Neither good nor bad, she was once again eclipsed by the genius of the Hokage and Sakura. She was even being slowly overshadowed by Ino who was quickly finding an affinity for field surgery.

It was a waste.

Shizune was --despite everything-- a nice and cheerful woman. Rational and level-headed she neither let her position get to her head or begrudged her peers any of their fame. True, she had a bit of a short temper, but that was only directed towards the Hokage. And only after a particularly bad drinking and/or gambling binge. None of that was noticed when matched up with the hot-headed tempers around her though.

They were all idiots.

Shikamaru didn't really understand it. Shizune was pretty enough, her skills were good enough, and her personality was actually better than average. As far as he was concerned, all those guys who overlooked her for those other troublesome women were crazy.

Their loss.

"Shizune-san," Shikamaru greeted the woman formally one day. His father had stressed the importance of etiquette on first dates, and Shikamaru had decided early in life that if the occasion ever did come up he'd follow his father's advice. If for no other reason than that he could blame the old man later if things ended up horribly. "Do you play shougi?"
